in twenty sixteen, amara resurrected born–and–raised hunter mary winchester by way of a false cain pit: mary’s own empty grave. in the months to come, the winchester matriarch struggled with belonging ⸻ uncertain where she belonged in a life she never intended for her sons. she grew distant and, upon halfhearted confession, would flee altogether.

weeks of solitude hunting and aimless travel passed before a funeral lured mary home and reconnected she and her sons with whom she promised to soon return. but even so, their mother’s loyalty / honesty remained so limited: mary began working with the british men of letters,

kept her alliance with them private until the death of a friend and near deaths of her boys. however late, rebellion came and the organization met it with crueler correction. mary, born and remade weapon, fell victim to once–sworn allies.

but as cursed lineage promises, tragedy befell once more. false idol rose again and upon striking the devil himself, fell into newly discovered dimension. made unwilling ally to lucifer, then imprisoned by this universe’s michael, she later joined a resistance against angels entirely. her place and status within allowed the winchester brothers to locate then later excavate the group into their own world ⸻ from which the winchester’s promised to aid them in the war.

their relief short–lived, michael resurfaced within their dimension, intent upon destroying theirs rather than his own. in his return he inhabited dean, revealed to be his true vessel, and left mary and sam without him. in his absence, the former began recreating the american men of letters ⸻ briefly headed by sam ⸻ and handled most of the new hunters’ training and assigned cases to whomever… but the winchesters’ focus never strayed from finding dean.

dean’s return / michael’s presumed restraint / lucifer’s death led unto almost human trial: nick, lucifer’s longterm vessel, took interest in the lone matriarch… and her apparent failure. although unwilling, mary accompanied him to a unit in which an enochian puzzle box remains.

in it, the demon responsible for his family’s deaths and his own descent into madness ⸻ the demon mary allowed to live even if only a limited life. the boys once again arrive to her rescue; abraxas was executed by nick following an admission that lucifer ordered the deaths of his family. donna hanscum, accompanying the winchester brothers, arrested nick who later escaped.

one final relocation of nick brought about his death at jack’s hands no less. mary watched, stood by and pled with him for nick’s life, and this alone cost the hunter her own life.

promised aid, a declaration of chosen / found family, the hovered concern of a false mother ⸻ cost her the resurrection she’d been gifted; but alike repeated lazarus, in eldest’s blind and selfish rage she rose again. brought back in kind, to dean and sam and their grief, to a kinder intent…

in late august of 2024, a woman by the name of jolene extends an invitiation to mary winchester from a declining ranch seated in monowi, nebraska; upon meeting, the former confesses herself a married–in campbell wedded to mary’s estranged brother ⸻ and confesses, too, the hardship she alone faces.

in late 2013, the winchester’s make the harsh decision to migrate north in search of a community beyond state lines; the women and their two sons manage to travel as far as randolph, virginia without real hardship ⸻ and thus recluse themselves within a false sense of security. it balks the last few miles out of randolph during which a group begins tailing them and eventually intercepts. the exchange ends in death: in joan’s death and in most of the groups’.

meredith, in an effort to preserve herself, allows the remaining two men to evade her, lingering only to lend joan an easier transition. newly widowed and deeply injured, she presses on with their two young sons. they continue moving north but never reach the rumored oceanside, steadily falling victim to what mary fears could be her wife’s murderers.

the bsaa seek the men of letters in their final hour of need ⸻ more bodies, more guns, more strength. in exchange, the latter are promised their own lives. new names, new places… a way to start over if not for disaster’s final strike.

amidst the initial raid, the winchester’s are split amongst the bsaa’s invading troops. the sworn reunion dissolves as either troop falls to the village and its mutating occupants with the winchester’s left to survey the remains for one another; the brothers reconvene, in agreement their mother wouldn’t be found with the bsaa.

meredith, however, awakes in a blood–slicked cell with little to no recollection of the events: a pair of others crowd the cell on either side of her, tormenting her almost as much as the lady of the house. it’s from this cell mary gores her way through to alcina ⸻ plucked from therein in a moment’s weakness.

on 2 november 2012, nick vaught claimed the life of john winchester and attempted to claim the lives of mary and their children. on trial, vaught confessed to murder, attempted murder, and arson in addition to being the latest statewide threat ⸻ the serial killer mary and the bureau had been investigating before the winchester housefire. despite the death of her husband and the attempt on hers and her sons’ lives, mary returned to the bureau six months after the fire; to this day, meredith remains a federal agent now located in maryland.
